We are now pleased to offer our customers the ArtAssist®; the arterial assist device, from ACI Medical. This device can greatly benefit patients with a diabetic foot/arterial ulcers and intermittent claudication. The ArtAssist® device increases walking distance and blood flow by up to three times, increases blood pressure at the ankle and helps to heal wounds and prevent amputations.
It is the application of a counterpressure to the limb to reduce venous hypertension.
Compression must be graduated to counteract the force of gravity (strongest at the ankle and decreasing in strength in a proximal direction).
WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF COMPRESSION THERAPY?
To prevent a decrease in blood flow velocity. Ie. To improve venous blood flow by returning the blood back to the heart more effectively and efficiently.
To restore blood flow velocity to normal, by squeezing valves in veins closer together.
To prevent raised intravascular and tissue pressures by improving venous blood return.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS IN OBTAINING GARMENTS?
Talk to your doctor is you have tired, achy legs, regardless of swelling.
Have your doctor write a prescription.
Come in and talk to us about your compression needs. We will help guide you in the process of obtaining a prescription if you do not have one.
The best time to be measured for your garments is first thing in the morning.
Home consultations are also available.
Anti-embolic (TEDS) stockings are not compression stockings – call us to find out the difference!
Patients can be quickly measured while standing using the Perometer 400T. Its large frame can accommodate patients of all sizes.
LYMPHEDEMA
Macdonald’s Prescriptions & Home Health Care also fits armsleeves and gloves for lymphedema of the arm. Our highly trained, experienced staff have been fitting sleeves for over 20 years and take pride in providing quality service and products for both our off the shelf and custom made garments. Macdonald’s Prescriptions & Home Health Care sells, services, and rents a broad range of medical equipment and devices to individuals, government agencies and health authorities throughout BC. We provide service to the Lower Mainland, FraserValley and SunshineCoast. We have a vast knowledge base in the supply, repair and maintenance of the Lymphapress Sequential Pneumatic Pump.
The Lymphapress pump is the leading pneumatic, sequential pump for the treatment of lymphedema. We have been the main distributor for the Lymphapress in British Columbia for the past 20 years. We work directly with the British Columbia Cancer Agency and other hospitals and Health Authorities throughout British Columbia. We provide access to the Lymphapress for all patients by offering on-site pump-downs, short-term rentals and sales. Home treatment of edema and lymphedema is not the only choice for patients, but it is often the most convenient and economical. We work with patients and extended medical plans to find access to funds. Our team is able to provide on-site instruction for the Lymphapress either at hospitals, in clinics or at home.
While lymphedema can be a congenital disorder, it can also be one of the many side effects of the life saving surgeries that are performed in order to remove certain cancers. There is no cure for lymphedema, only care and management. Throughout our years of experience, we have found that the most successful results in treatment are reached through a combination of actively pumping down affected limbs and maintaining it through the use of compression garments.
Products:
The Lymphapress Sequential Compression Pump is a pneumatic sequential compression pump that works on physiological principles, actively milking lymph fluid back to active lymph channels. The Lymphapress is unequaled in the marketplace due to its adjustable high pressure, short cycle time, and ease of use.
All the models have 12 overlapping chambers with an inflation time of 26 seconds. The 103AT and the Lymphapress Plus machines are both recommended for clinic/hospital use. The Lymphapress 201A model is recommended for home use. The accessories are the same for all models and are interchangeable. The disposable/reusable “Snake” leg appliance is available as an option to use for a client with a highly exudating wound or where infection control is an issue.
Lymphapress 103AT:
The original Lymphadema machine
Provides control over calibrated gradient pressure from 30-200mmHg pressure.
Supplies pressure from the distal area of the sleeve and progresses proximally through the cells that overlap by 50% of the appliance.
Lymphapress 201A:
The home unit model.
Pumps to a maximum of 80mmHg.
Highly recommended for lymphedema of the arm secondary to breast cancer.
The newest device available in the Canadian market.
Total treatment given includes three program steps
A Pre-therapy I (15 minutes) – helps to empty the lymphatics prior to starting the standard distal to proximal treatment cycle.
A Lympha Gradient Cycle (30 minutes)
A Pre-Therapy II (final 15 minutes)
This pump is strongly recommended for use in clinic and hospital settings.
